Verizon is trying to position themselves as a real competitor in the wearables industry and with their new smartwatch, the Wear24, they are hoping to take on the Huawei Watch 2 and LG’s Watch Sport.

The new Wear24 is an Android Wear 2.0 device and will have 4G LTE connectivity through Verizon’s cellular network. It will also include NFC for hands-free payment via Android Pay, and offer the traditional Wi-Fi connectivity.

With a 1.39” AMOLED display featuring 400×400 resolution, this smartwatch does have a very attractive quality that separates it from many other wearables: a decent battery. The Wear24 will be outfitted with a 450mAh battery and will offer wireless charging. This means something else that a lot of potential buyers want: a great water resistance.

Since there are no microUSB ports needed for charging, the Wear24 will be water resistant. This pairs well with the durable, silicone rubber strap that offers a classic look while allowing the watch to remain durable.

Using a Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor, the OS is fast and responsive and features 768MB of RAM and 4GB of storage.

The larger, 450mAh battery is better than the LG Watch Sport’s 430mAh — and Verizon has still managed to make the Wear24 slightly thinner than LG’s. The Wear24 case comes in at 0.53 inches wide, while the LG Watch Sport is 0.6 inches.

The construction is also expected to be steel with a “crown” on the right hand side of the case. This will likely be a button that the user can use for on-screen navigation. There will be interactive watch faces that will give you access to your apps.

Verizon is certainly stepping out into the unknown with the Wear24. Not too much is known about the Wear24, so releasing it as a competitor to some of the most iconic, reliable, and well-known brands like Huawei, LG, and others, is quite bold — especially with a price tag of $350 for a product that has no name recognition behind it.

Colors

The new Wear24 will be available in three different colors: Stainless Steel, Gunmetal Black, and Rose Gold. These are pretty impressive choices as they appeal to most of the market — smart move on Verizon’s part.

Price Tag

Now, while the construction is impressive and the Wear24 ha a bigger battery yet smaller size than the LG Watch Sport — it is pretty expensive.

You can expect Verizon’s Wear24 to cost you around $349.99. As a Verizon customer, there may be a sale to take advantage of — and if there is, we suggest you take it — because with a price tag comparable to the Samsung Gear, Huawei Watch, and Apple Watch smartwatches (which are considered the best in the industry), this Wear24 will be pricey and will be debuting without much reputation behind it.
